What we do and do not take, stated first

Most pages save the caveats for the bottom. This one belongs at the top, because getting it wrong wastes your time and ours.

We handle non-contaminated practice textiles. Scrubs, lab coats, staff uniforms, patient towels, dental bibs where they are cloth, headrest covers, drapes and gowns that are not contaminated, cleaning cloths, and break room linen.

We do not handle regulated or contaminated laundry. Anything saturated with blood or other potentially infectious material, anything falling under the OSHA bloodborne pathogens standard for contaminated laundry, or anything requiring a certified healthcare laundry process. We are not accredited for that stream and we are not going to imply we are.

For the large majority of dental practices and general medical offices, essentially everything they generate falls in the first category. Confirm your own classification against the OSHA standard and your practice's infection control policy rather than taking our word for it.

The scrubs-at-home problem

Ask around any dental office and you will find most of the clinical team is washing their own scrubs at home, in a domestic machine, alongside their family's clothes.

Staff will tell you it is fine. It has three problems.

It is unpaid work you are relying on. Every member of your clinical team is spending their own time and their own money maintaining your practice's appearance.

It is inconsistent. Ten people washing scrubs ten different ways produces ten different shades of the same colour within a year. A team in visibly mismatched scrubs reads as a practice that is not paying attention, and patients absolutely register it even if they could not tell you why.

It moves practice textiles into domestic settings, which most infection control policies would rather avoid and some explicitly address.

Handling it centrally solves all three and costs less than people assume.

Appearance is part of the clinical impression

Patients cannot evaluate your clinical skill. They evaluate everything around it, and they do it within the first minute.

Crisp, matched, properly white lab coats and clean scrubs signal competence. Greying coats with dingy cuffs signal the opposite, and in a dental practice in particular, where anxiety is already high, that impression does real work before you have said anything.

White is where this shows. Lab coats grey through a combination of hard water mineral loading and the over-bleaching people reach for to fix it. The over-bleaching weakens the cotton, which makes it wear and grey faster, which invites more bleach. Breaking that cycle is a dosing and softening problem, not a bleach problem.

Cloth versus disposable

A lot of practices have drifted toward disposables for bibs, drapes, and headrest covers, usually one item at a time and without ever pricing the whole picture.

Disposables have real advantages and we are not going to argue against them. They are simple and there is no laundry logistics.

The costs that get missed are the recurring supply spend, which never stops and rises with your patient volume, and the waste stream, which some practices care about and their patients increasingly ask about. Cloth is a fixed asset with a running laundry cost instead.

The right answer differs by practice and by item. Plenty of offices land on a mix: disposable where contamination is likely, cloth for towels, gowns, and anything a patient sees for long. Reliability beats speed here

Most practices do not need fast turnaround. They need the same delivery, on the same day, every week, without anyone having to think about it.

That is what we build. A fixed collection day, a fixed return, and enough stock in rotation that a delay never becomes a problem. If your practice runs four clinical days a week, the schedule should sit around that rather than a generic route.

Break room and common area textiles

Beyond clinical wear there is a category most practices never think of as laundry until someone looks at it.

Kitchen and break room towels. Cleaning cloths used on surfaces and equipment. Cloth mats. Waiting room throws in practices that offer them. Blankets, which are increasingly common in dental offices offering comfort items to anxious patients.

That last one deserves attention. If you hand a patient a blanket, they are putting it against their face and neck, and they are thinking about how many other people have used it. A blanket that is visibly fresh does real work on anxiety. One that is not does the opposite, loudly.

These items are low volume and easy to add to an existing collection, and they are usually being washed by whoever is free, which means inconsistently.

A single-chair dental office or a solo practitioner may not have the volume for a commercial account to beat retail. If that is you, we will say so, and drop-off wash dry fold at $1.99 a pound during attended hours may simply be the better answer.
