Over 60 washers and dryers, so you are not waiting on a machine

The most common complaint about any laundromat is standing around because everything is full. We run over 60 washers and dryers. On a normal weekday morning you can take four, five, six machines at once and run your entire household in parallel.

That is the whole trick to getting laundry done fast. At home you are running one load, waiting forty minutes, then running the next. Here you run them all at the same time. A family's worth of laundry that eats an entire Saturday at home is done before lunch.

Machine sizes, and which one you actually want

Top loaders are the workhorses. Everyday clothes, work shirts, kids' laundry, towels, sheets. If it goes in your washer at home, it goes in a top loader here, and you can run six of them at once.

Extra large front loaders are for the things a home washer cannot take. Comforters. King duvets. Sleeping bags. Dog beds. Moving blankets. Mattress pads. Every one of those is a job people put off for months because it will not fit, and it takes about an hour here.

Please do not put comforters, rugs, or heavy items in the top loaders. There are signs on the machines and there is a reason for them: a soaked comforter is too heavy for a top loader and it damages the machine. Use the front loaders for heavy items. Ask the attendant if you are not sure which is which.

Stacked dryers run along the back wall. They are hot and they are fast, and they are sized to match the washers, so a load out of an extra large front loader has a dryer that can handle it.

Arizona water is hard, and it changes how you wash

East Valley water is hard. That is not an opinion, it is what comes out of the tap in Mesa, and it matters more for laundry than most people realise. Hard water leaves minerals in fabric, which is why towels that feel fine coming out of the machine end up scratchy, and why whites gradually go grey no matter what detergent you use.

Two things help. Use a proper dose of detergent rather than skimping, because hard water eats some of it before it ever gets to your clothes. And use a softener, which is the thing that actually pulls the mineral feel out of towels.

We vend Tide, Clorox, and Downy on site at $2.00 so you do not have to remember to bring any of it. If you have your own preferred detergent, bring it, no one minds.

Attended mornings, self-service until 9pm

An attendant works the floor from 6:00 AM to 1:30 PM every day. If a machine eats your money, if you cannot work out a setting, if you need change or a hand with something heavy, that is when somebody is there.

From 1:30 PM to 9:00 PM the lobby stays open and it is fully self-service. Plenty of people prefer that window because it is quieter. Just know which one you are walking into.

Last wash goes in at 8:00 PM. We close at 9:00 PM and you want the drying time.

When to come if you want the place to yourself

Weekday mornings right at open, 6:00 AM to about 8:00 AM, are the quietest hours of the week and the attendant is on. Weekday afternoons after 2:00 PM are the next quietest. Weekend mornings are the busiest stretch, particularly Saturday between 9:00 AM and noon.

Snowbird season, roughly October through April, lifts traffic across the whole East Valley. Mornings still clear out first.

The Arizona loads people put off

There is a category of laundry that never gets done at home, and in this part of the state it is fairly predictable.

After monsoon season. Dust and blown grit gets into everything on a patio. Outdoor cushions, patio covers, shade sails, and door mats all come out of a summer storm season filthy and none of them fit in a home washer.

Pool towels. Households with a pool generate stacks of heavy, damp towels that a domestic machine handles four at a time. Ten minutes in a front loader here does the lot.

Hiking and camping gear. Sleeping bags off the Superstitions, tent inners, packs. Bulky, awkward, and hard on a home machine.

Winter bedding at the turn of the season. Comforters and blankets that have been in a closet since April and want a wash before the nights cool off. This is why the front loaders get busy in October.

Pet bedding. Dog beds and crate pads are the single most common thing people bring in that they will not put in their own washer, and they are right not to.

All of it is a front loader job, and all of it is an hour.

If you are standing there deciding whether you really want to spend the hour, you do not have to. Drop it off instead. Our drop-off wash dry fold service is $1.99 a pound and the attendant handles all of it. Bring it in before 1:30 PM.

Businesses with real volume should look at commercial laundry instead, which is priced per account rather than per pound.
