The real cost of doing your own laundry

Most businesses never actually price this out. Work through it once and it is usually uncomfortable.

A salon washing towels between clients has somebody loading a domestic machine in the back. That machine takes a fraction of what a commercial machine takes, so it runs constantly, and it dies about every eighteen months because it was never built for that duty cycle. Meanwhile the person loading it is a stylist you are paying to cut hair.

A short-term rental host is doing turnovers on the clock. Every hour of linen washing is an hour not spent on the next booking, and if the laundry is not dry the guest cannot check in.

Why a commercial machine matters for a commercial load

Domestic washers are built for a household's clothes. Business laundry is not that. It is heavier, it is dirtier, it is more of it, and it needs to come out genuinely sanitary rather than just smelling clean.

Our large capacity machines wash a full commercial load in one go rather than splitting it across four domestic cycles. Hotter, faster, and with the mechanical action needed to actually get oils out of salon towels and food out of restaurant linens. Arizona's hard water makes that harder still, which is exactly why the right dose and the right machine matter more here than they would in a soft water state.

Pricing

Commercial accounts are not charged the $1.99 per pound retail rate. Pricing is set per account against your actual volume and what you are sending, and it works out considerably better than retail on any real quantity.

How we quote you, and what we need to know

A laundry quote is only as good as the information behind it, so the call is short and specific. Four things:

What you send. Towels behave differently from sheets, which behave differently from chef whites. Oil-heavy salon towels and food-stained restaurant linen need different handling from guest bedding, and that affects the number.

How much, per week. A rough weight or a count is fine. Twenty bath towels and ten sets of sheets is enough to work from. Nobody expects you to have weighed it.

How fast you need it back. Next day, two days, a fixed weekly slot. This is usually the thing that decides whether an account is straightforward or not, and it is better said up front than discovered later.

Where you are, and how we get in. A restaurant with a back door and a rental with a lockbox are different logistics.

From that we can give you a rate. If your pattern is unusual, we will say so rather than quote a number we cannot hold.

Switching from whatever you do now

Most businesses that call us are not starting from nothing. They are doing it in-house, using a big linen contract, or paying retail per-pound rates somewhere.

If you are doing it in-house, the first thing to work out is not the laundry cost, it is the staff hours you get back and whether that machine in the back is on its last legs. Those two numbers usually decide it before the per-pound rate matters at all.

If you are on a linen contract, check your notice period before you do anything. Those agreements often run longer than people remember and they can auto-renew. We would rather you find that out now than after you have told them you are leaving.

If you are paying retail per pound, this is the easiest switch there is, and any real weekly volume should be on an account rate instead.

Start with one week as a trial. See what comes back and how it is folded before you commit anything.

Working with a local operator instead of a linen company

The large linen companies work on long contracts, fixed inventories, and their own stock rather than yours. That suits some businesses and not others.

We are one location on East Main Street in Mesa, run by the current owners. You will deal with the people doing the work. If a turnaround needs to move, you call and it moves. If something comes back wrong, you talk to the owner rather than a service number.

The honest tradeoff: we are not a regional linen supplier and we do not rent you inventory. We wash yours and give it back.
